“I was a Beatles fan long before i knew who the Beatles were. With Dad’s out-of-tune singing, and the LP resonating throughout the house, until the CD took its place, songs like ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘Yesterday’, ‘Lucy in the Sky like Diamonds’ became a household fixture.

It wasn’t until i grew up that i began to understand the phenomenon that was the Beatles and the love affair that the entire world had with them.

For a band who performed their last ever public concert in 1969, the Beatles have continued to be remembered, their loyal fans not allowing their music to die.

40 years on, 2009 brings us the tragic news that Michael Jackson has passed away. The ‘King of Pop’ preparing for a world tour that had sold billions of tickets.

He set his mark during the 80’s and although his talent was always clouded by controversy and a confusing personal life, his fans never gave up on his music. It seems Michael didn’t either. He continued to produce number one hits and continued to put his mark on the music world.

Music defines moments in people’s lives that they remember forever and hold close to their hearts. The first dance as husband and wife, the intimate moment shared on a sunny summers day staring out at sea, the first moment you realised you had grown up and are a women, a man, in love, out of love, happy, sad, content.

Without music makers, there would be no music. Without songs, there would be no singing. Without emotions, there would be no joy. It is a never-ending cycle of life, brought together by song.

Although both influential and integral parts of the music landscape, it is fair to say that the Beatles pioneered, but Michael Jackson revolutionised. They will all, however, be remembered for the talent they had and everlasting memories they have given to people.”
